6 months agoA joke! I was told I couldn't get assistance because I was already homeless and they can only help people who on the verge of being homeless. All I needed was a little bit of money to get into a place. I had all move in fees and couldn't get approved unless I paid off some old utilities bills which was very little and if I paid them I wouldnt have first and last and deposit and fees but because I was already homeless they refused to help even though I've been living in my car for almost 2 months mind you I was asking for less than 600 but because I was already homeless they couldn't help but you call yourself a homeless organization. What a joke!

a year agoShannan helped me today and by the time I got to talk to him I’d talked to like 3 other people from different places that all ended up nowhere and unhelpful, so I was pretty frustrated and defeated. He spoke with my best friend first and was incredibly kind and helpful, and he was very informative once I got on the phone with him. I started choking up a few times just because he was SO kind and helpful. So Shannan, if you ever see this, thank you for brightening my day! Maybe your pillow ALWAYS be cold!!🫶🏻

a year agoThe place to go for help with navigating local resources like public services, food, etc. I think people get confused that 211 provides services directly, and then are mad when "they didn't help me!" But it's a connection agency since the overall government and health care systems are so complex and hold times are long. Agents are highly trained to help find solutions, but sometimes there just aren't any local resources available. When you can't find something, always try back again later to see what new programs/funding may have come available. Best part about 211 is they're always up to date on what is available. Plus they're nice people!

2 years agoOn Thursday, January 18, 2024, I was at the Rose Quarter Transit Center when a young man approached me for help. He mentioned that he had just been released from prison and was in need of information about the warming shelters. Despite the freezing winter storm, he was only wearing a shirt and jeans and was visibly shaking. Concerned for his well-being, I decided to call 211 for assistance. After waiting for nearly half an hour, I finally connected with a person. However, to my surprise, they displayed a lack of compassion and seemed to have no knowledge about the area. They were unable to provide any guidance on how to get to the shelter from the Moda Center Rose Quarter area. It was disappointing to encounter such a response, and I felt that the service was a waste of public funds. I don't believe they should exist at all, considering anyone can simply search for Portland warming shelters on Google. I expected the service to have a wealth of information, but it turned out to be a frustrating experience that I don't wish to repeat.

2 years agoBeen calling daily for months after losing my dad and sister in the same month in 2023 while told the same thing: "there is rapid pay assistance available but only once you have a court date/case # for eviction". I was told me this by at least 8 employees and now I finally get a court date/case # because I am being evicted, 211 now tells me that NO assistance is available unless you're over the age of 65 since SVDP wait-list is close, after MONTHS of daily calls being told there was referrals and assistance available once I had a court summons. 211 has not only been of zero help, but to lie to people during one of the worst things to experience (losing your only place to go/go from an apartment to the street in a tent) is freaking cruel, I seriously feel betrayed that I kept being lied to for months only for all hope to be ripped from me the moment I get the eviction court date. Shame on 211, shame on Multnomah County and the state for not enforcing 211 to not be allowed to full on lie to people with zero consequences. Thanks for making this experience of losing my home that much worse.
