Pink Ponies
3 years agoWeird and terrible interaction. Called twice, first time she was super nice and sent me to speak to someone else that she thought was a better fit. I did, and I also recommended her to TWO people after that first phone call. Called back once I had more information and thought I was ready to book an initial consultation with her. Maybe I started the conversation off wrong, I said something like “I spoke to you last week about xyz and now I’m wondering if I could…” So maybe she thought I was just calling to ask the question? But I mean, I need a lawyer to write up the contract? So wouldn’t she just say “yes, let’s set up a consult” or “no, I don’t think I practice the right kind of law”? But no, instead she said “I don’t mean want to be rude but…” (always a sign whatever you’re going to say is, in fact, rude) and then told me my question was inappropriate. Again, I think because she didn’t think there was a job for her in it? Even though I need a lawyer to draw up my contract? She told me she could answer me because that would be “giving legal advice”. Totally fine- I didn’t need her to give legal advice, I don’t know the ethics of a law practice, but I understand having an ethical standard you have to hold yourself to. So, just schedule an appointment with me so I can pay you to ask my question? At this point I’d had such a good interaction with her the first time, I thought she’d be able to honestly answer my questions if I scheduled a consultation- so I wasn’t so worried about possibly wasting a few hundred bucks on a meeting. BUT then, she started going into how asking the question I asked was like “asking a surgeon questions before a surgery”? I think she meant it was like asking a doctor for medical advice without paying? Okay… I was literally calling back to see if she could help me complete my transaction! She went on about how she has a doctorate and that takes years of schooling and how she already told me I should talk to a CPA (which I had done, and had come back with a different property/plan I needed a contract drawn up for based on the conversation with the CPA). She was very condescending and at one point after explaining how she had a juris doctorate, which she said very slowly for some reason, went on to explain how a tax attorney has “even more years of schooling” like I somehow didn’t know Lawyers go to school? The funniest part is- I have a doctorate, and it took a lot longer to get than a law degree. So yeah, I know how long it takes to get a degree, AND I often walk people through different specialists they need to see, if it’s not me. It’s truly the best way to get referrals, help people navigate a system they don’t know much about and they will 1) usually come back when they think they CAN use your services (as I tried to do with this law office) and 2) refer you to everyone they know (which I also tried to do, don’t worry, took back my referrals!). Anyways- this interaction left a terrible taste in my mouth. No matter how much schooling I’ve done (note: more than her), nothing replaces the kindness I learned as a child.
