11 months agoI’m very happy to have chosen the collaborative model for my divorce. Tonya and her assistant, Mary, made sure I felt supported and cared for and were committed to making the process as simple and collaborative as possible. All divorce is difficult, but I’m convinced that with the collaborative approach it was much less painful and expensive than it could have been.

10 months agoI was selfishly hoping that a female mediator would be more attentive, especially to my feelings, but I was wrong. Whether Tonya was too busy to read my email or simply didn’t care, I don’t know. For example, during our face-to-face meeting, she often looked at my ex-husband while speaking and only occasionally looked at me, which made me feel uncomfortable—as if she preferred him because he was more attractive. On another occasion, I sent her a short email with a simple request, and she replied less than six minutes later with a lengthy response that felt as though she was “shouting” at me. Moreover, she didn’t even address my question, which made me wonder if she had actually read my email. In addition, her secretary Mary once sent out new information about our case but emailed it only to my ex-husband. I only found out about it when he forwarded it to me, which made me question—am I not part of this divorce case? Why call themselves “mediators” if they treat one party as invisible? Overall, their service made me feel dismissed and disrespected—perhaps they simply didn’t care about someone like me, maybe even because of my skin color.

9 years agoTonya came highly recommended and she lived up to everything i was told that she would be. She is professional, compassionate and fair. She is a great listener and quickly grasps what each party wants and needs. After each meeting, she sent a detailed email outlining the things that were discussed and how to follow-up on items that needed attention. If controversial things were discussed at a meeting, she handled them professionally and was able to resolve them. Her office staff was knowledgeable and attentive. Her goal is for both parties to be satisfied with the results and she successfully met that goal. She has my greatest respect and admiration.
