5 months agoI have to wonder why the district attorney is constantly letting a convicted domestic abuser off easy? We'll just call him Kyle D for the sake of argument since it's public record anyway. He beats up the mother of his children, and has been let off easy at least twice with probation. He's once again in custody for beating her up, strangulation, breaking a stalking order, contempt of court, etc and you give him a $2500 bail? I know there's another slap on the wrist coming from your department. Mr Barton you were elected to be tough on crime and to hold people accountable for their crimes, but this shows us that you're actually a cream puff. I urge you to look at into this case and do the job you were elected to do before my friend winds up dead because of your constant inaction on this case. In the private sector people would have been fired by now for their gross inaction. Please prove me wrong, as I voted for you!

a year agoI am writing this review because I think there's a very biased outlook on Google regarding our District Attorney's Office in Washington County, OR. I will start off by telling you that I have been in trouble a number of times in this County. 99% of the time I have been solely responsible for my actions and the negative impact it has caused to others. I feel pretty bad about this and will always carry this weight yet there have also been occasions where I have been wrongfully accused and very worried that the truth would not reflect in my favor or the outcome of my cases. I could not have been more wrong as the Prosecution fought hard to bring to light the absolute truth of the matters at hand. My most recent offenses I am guilty of. I strive hard to be an outstanding person to everyone I encounter but I am ashamed that I fell short of this once again. I don't want to be on the wrong side of the law or a problem in society. I want to be someone you can count on in the community to keep it safe and always be there to help. Without the guidance of the District's Office there would be no line in the sand other's could not cross. They are here for you no matter which side you stand on. Please remember that you are being protected by them at all times in addition to your local law enforcement. I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate to live in this County as there is substantially less graffiti, cleaner streets, less heavy security in stores and less homelessness and drugs than you will find in adjoining counties in our metropolitan area. I hope that if you live out here too that you take the time to appreciate how truly nice it is and the folks who keep it this way for all of us. God Bless the District Attorney's Office and Washington County Law Enforcement. Thank you so much for everything you do.

a year agoThe Washington County justice system enables the cycle of Domestic Violence by calling victims to bail the perpetrator/abuser out of the jail due to overcrowding during the holidays. My ex husband broke into my house and has not lived with me since April stole my vehicle, was charged with trespassing and had an arraignment and now a contact order with me or my child. The Jail Deputy lied and said my ex-husband would be on house arrest. I did not bail him out and he was released anyway without house arrest and just a no contact order( I had to call to find this out 2 days later). The Jail Deputy lying to victims is a huge liability and Safety issue for victims and the current rise in Domestic Violence post-pandemic. I took 2 days off work and spent 2 days in court trying to get a restraining ourder so I saw first hand how Washington County enables the DV Cycle and was even laughed at about Financial and Emotional abuse being part of the DV cycle by older caucasian women named Sheila B. at the desk. This is why victims die and do not get help because of the shame and lack of validation by the Family Law Center at the courthouse. There is no help getting a restraining order you have to basically beat first! I watched first hand in the Family Law Assistance Center how Domestic Violence is normalized and not addressed. It's normal for spouses to steal cars and even break into houses during a divorce (Part of the power and control wheel). There is no Justice in this county for victims.

a year agoThe phrase "we were not expecting that" was the main thing that keeps me having hope that I might get my animals back. My ex stole my animals and the police do nothing since I took a plea deal after my ex called the police on me while I was suicidal calling it a civil matter, the lawyer I received A. Sanchez (86 cases and 2 years experience) told me I was not able to help in the case because of my mental health leaving me feeling hopeless in a legal system described best by the violation hearing lawyer "the court has a culture of being hostile towards crime", I wasn't given any other option other than a plea deal saying I was guilty while my ex held my animals against my will pushing me to waive my rights to a trial, the release judge also added to the feeling of hopelessness in my case, I appreciate the person in the other review who also has been on the other hand of theirs saying they do good because I truly believe they would've called the abuse out had I been given a chance to speak to them, I planned to give myself a outpatient lobotomy because of this and frankly I'm glad I went to the classes cause it screams out to me that 26% of DV defendants are the actual victim as the DOJ points out. I swore not to lie well before going into a court and I hope that actual means something since I don't need a Bible to keep that dignity.

9 months agoFails to prosecute a company in their jurisdiction that is known to have stolen firearms and components. There are at least 70 victims and it is still not enough for the DA to get involved with the case.
