8 months agoI read that it's busiest at the beginning of a month and the beginning of the week, so I avoided that. I got there at 11:20am on a Friday as a walk-in since appointments were over a month out. Plenty of parking. I waited about 2.5 hours. They announced at noon that they were not accepting any more walk-ins that day. Once I was called, the process was very easy, less than 5 mins. (I had done the online application ahead of time which helped). The staff and security guard were friendly and professional. If you’re able to make an appointment, definitely do it- those visitors were in and out in under 10 minutes. Eat ahead of time...you can’t bring food or drinks inside. I considered leaving to get lunch, and technically I could have left and come back, but they don’t give time estimates for walk-ins. When I took my number, it was only five after the one currently being helped, but since appointments are prioritized and they call numbers out of order, it kept feeling like I’d be next, so I stayed the whole time. Get tacos or coffee across the street once you're done, to celebrate surviving!

2 months ago⭐☆☆☆☆ I had one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had at a Social Security office involving two clerks and an appointment for my newborn. If you have children I do not recommend this office! I came in to apply for a Social Security card for my newborn son. When I checked in, I was told the wait would be about an hour, so I got my number to wait in line. I explained that I needed to breastfeed my baby and asked if it would be okay to wait in my car since it was over 95 degrees outside, my baby was tired and hungry, and I preferred the privacy of feeding him there. The employee at the front desk, who identified herself as Justine, assured me this was fine and specifically told me that I could wait in my car, feed my son, and come back inside when I received the text message that it was my turn. That’s exactly what I did. The moment I received the text, I immediately got my newborn back into his stroller and made my way from the parking lot into the building. As I walked in, I saw another customer just about to sit down at the window that was supposed to be my appointment. When I asked what happened, I was told I had missed my turn and would have to start the entire process over with a new number and another long wait. Had I been told that arriving even seconds after receiving the text would mean losing my appointment, I never would have left the waiting room. Instead, I followed the instructions I was given. I politely explained that I was traveling in two days, this was my only opportunity to complete this appointment, I had already waited over an hour, and I was caring for a crying newborn. I simply asked if I could be seen immediately after the person who had taken my spot. The employee refused. She said it was “up to her discretion,” would not give me any estimate of how long I would have to wait, and said that helping me next wouldn’t be fair to everyone else—even though I was only in this situation because I followed the instructions their office gave me. There was absolutely no empathy, no attempt to find a reasonable solution, and no accountability for the misinformation I had been given. As a new mother traveling with a newborn, this experience was incredibly stressful and completely avoidable. I was visibly wearing my Star of David throughout my visit. I have no way of knowing whether that had anything to do with how I was treated, but I was so shocked that another woman could treat a mother with a crying newborn with such little compassion after I had simply followed the instructions I was given that I was left wondering whether my visibly Jewish identity played a role. I sincerely hope that wasn’t the case, but the thought crossed my mind because I could not otherwise understand the complete lack of empathy and unwillingness to offer any reasonable accommodation. The screening clerk identified herself as Justine, and the employee at Cubicle 4 identified herself as Justina. I understand that offices have policies, but when a customer follows the exact instructions given by staff, they should not be penalized for it. This office needs better communication, better training, and far more compassion for families with infants.

2 months agoHorrible staff and experience. Im appalled at how they treated my newborn baby and wife. The clerk told my wife it was okay to wait in the car to breastfeed and they would text her when her number is ready to be called, she never stated that if she wasnt in line at exactly that second they would have to wait for another appointment. So my wife recieves the text, takes the baby and stroller out of the car, walks inside and a woman is just sitting down in cubicle 4, the clerk in cubicle 4 then proceeded to tell my wife she missed her appointment and she would need to start all over and “that its up to her how long it will take and if she will call her up next or someone else that is up to her discretion”. As a first time mom in 95 degree heat holding a fussy newborn this woman who she claimed to be justine or justina (although i have a feeling she just made that name up to remove accountability) decided that priority to elders, disabled and newborn babies was not in her training. Its quite disturbing to see a newborn treated that way after the check in clerk (who also went by justine) told her it was okay to breastfeed in the car. Now we left the office with travel plans in 2 days and we were not helped with a screaming baby and utter frustration that by choice the clerk CHOSE not to assist a mother and her newborn under her discretion she forced her to wait in line all over again when she could have been respectful and kind by letting her use her same number and grab her newborns social security card after she finished with the walk in appointment lady sitting in her appointment spot. Its unfortunate to see this establishment has untrained and unfriendly employees, i highly recommend not wasting your time here and rather going to salem, eugene roseburg or any other office where they have customer service, knowledgeable and intelligent employees who treat people with disabilities and babies with respect.

a month agoOrderly, quiet and easy to check in. Bathroom is clean and waiting area is nice and has large windows looking at lots of trees. Lots of parking spaces close to entry and friendly federal officers. Check in is simple and self explanatory. Monitors display the check in numbers so you can tell who is next on which window. Overall experience was very easy and pleasant. Make sure you bring all necessary legal documents with you. Air on the side of more documents based on your reason for coming. ChatGPT helped me with all documents needed for my mother’s situation and some additional documents in case which came in handy. It’s good to know Beaverton Oregon branch runs so smoothly! Thank you SSA for your services!

5 months agoI was initially a bit apprehensive about coming here after reading several negative reviews, but my experience was the complete opposite. I highly recommend scheduling an appointment beforehand. Despite the reputation for long wait times, I was checked in and out in just 15 minutes. The process was incredibly efficient, the staff was professional, and everything moved smoothly. If you have your paperwork ready and a scheduled time slot, it’s a breeze.
