8 months agoIf you’re looking at this law firm and the attorney are “listening” to you, your case is already SCREWED. This is probably the last place you’d want to go. I had 2 meeting and was charged $1395. They are attorneys so there’s no need to argue you won’t be done right. If you got referred here head the warning you are at the wrong place! Good luck.

2 months agoUPDATE: My son’s father has now died after years of alcohol and drug addiction. The parent evaluator recommended provisions requiring substance-abuse evaluation and treatment, yet Thomas Elliott failed and purposely made sure those critical protections were NOT included in the judgment. I firmly believe that if those provisions had been properly pursued and enforced, my son’s father might have received treatment and could still be alive today. My seven-year-old son is now without his father, and I will never forgive how seriously Mr. Elliott failed my child and me. Mr. Elliott was condescending, arrogant, rude, accusatory and shockingly unprofessional toward me and my entire family. He constantly rolled his eyes, shut us down, acted annoyed whenever I tried to explain important concerns and treated me as though I were beneath him. His tone, facial expressions and body language were repugnant. He called me names and judged me for choosing the healthy path to health.I had to ask him to show basic professionalism, patience and compassion while preparing for trial. There was no trust, support or genuine effort to understand what my child and I had experienced. I also became deeply concerned about his relationship with my ex’s attorney and whether he was truly advocating for me. He waited until approximately three days before trial to seriously prepare my case. I was not properly shown the evidence being used against me, I was not given a meaningful opportunity for rebuttal, and he never cross-examined my ex because court time ran out. Rather than fight to finish the case, he pressured me to settle and warned that I could lose custody if I did not agree. This was especially outrageous because the parent evaluator had recommended that I receive custody. He pressured me into accepting joint custody and language giving my ex final authority over health decisions, despite the documented concerns involving his substance abuse. He failed to include the evaluator’s recommended protections involving alcohol, drugs, evaluation and treatment. I did not agree with the final document and felt forced into signing it through fear and pressure. His billing was also outrageous. I was initially told that approximately $10,000 should cover the remaining work, yet the bill suddenly reached approximately $17,000 in about 2.5 weeks without proper warning. He charged excessively for work that was not completed or meaningfully discussed with me, including $450 to drive from Tualatin to downtown Portland. We attended court only once for approximately six hours, he did not cross-examine my ex, present my evidence and many of the questions he asked me under oath did not even appear designed to help my case. He also handled child support poorly. He failed to obtain adequate bank records and three years of tax returns from my ex, even though my ex operated his own business and I had concerns about unreported income. After my ex and I had agreed on an amount, Mr. Elliott took it upon himself to propose recalculating it without first discussing it with me, resulting in my child receiving approximately $60 less per month. I paid this man thousands of dollars to protect my child and advocate for me. Instead, I felt belittled, pressured, overcharged, ignored and worked against. The consequences were not minor. My son’s father is now dead from the very addictions that the evaluator’s recommended provisions were intended to address. In my opinion, Thomas Elliott’s failure to fight for those protections had devastating and irreversible consequences for my family. He possesses no shred of human descency, is a greedy and a repulsive waste of matter. My son is aware of his actions and if anything happens to me, everything is on the record for my son to know the truth. I strongly do not recommend Thomas Elliott. Anyone considering hiring him should read every document carefully, demand a complete accounting of every charge, insist that all evaluator recommendations be included and obtain a second legal opinion before signing anything.

5 months agoIt is my personal opinion that Tom Elliott is not a good attorney. In my view, he didn't even take time to listen to my case or what may work for me the best specifically . He often acted surprised at information that was important information that he could have used and heard multiple times, information thar he could have used in my case to gain significant ground and possibly settle, but everyone knows that if you settle, the attorney stops getting paid his 400/hr Why would an attorney want to settle at that price ? He would literally say stuff about my case that had nothing to do with my case , before court. It was embarrassing. I would have to correct my attorney before court so that he wasn't fighting someone else's case he was confused about and not focused on It's my personal opinion that it's time for this man to retire

5 years agoI contacted Thomas Elliott for some legal assistance just over a year ago. During the course of the last year, Tom helped me with 4 different cases. Tom always had my best interest in mind, even if it meant he would make less money. Tom took the time to explain the law to me in a way that I could understand. He was always available when I had questions, and his staff was more than helpful when needed. I hope I never need to hire another attorney in my life, but if I do....I'm definitely calling Martin, Elliott & Snell!

3 years agoTom helped me with a complex and messy custody battle. He was always fair minded towards my ex and helped a great deal is a timely resolution. I appreciate him and his office for everything they did for me. I come from attorneys, (father/grandfather) and Tom is one of the greats. Noble in heart, fair towards opponents, tenacious towards goals, and realistic in expectations. For the quality of their services, they could charge more.
