a year agoMr. McLain is professional, kind, straightforward, and fair. He guides you through the challenging steps of the mediation process and clearly explains what to expect throughout your journey. I highly recommend him for his honest advice and clear communication. You may not always want to hear what he has to say, however it is worth it in the end. Please remember that the process may take some time and like I said, it is worth the effort. The timeline could take months or years. Hopefully not years like my case (court was shut down due to COVID). Regardless of how long it takes, Mr. McLain is on your team. I would suggest him to anyone seeking legal advice.

3 years agoAre you tired of paying hundreds of dollars an hour only to do people's jobs for them? Are you sick of the general incompetence and mediocrity that is so prevalent now? Are you looking for an attorney who will want what's best for you rather than what will get them the most money? If so, you need Andy McLain and his firm. After hiring a big law firm downtown who filed the wrong paperwork and was charging thousands of dollars doing absolutely nothing of value, while I was losing weight and hair and feeling my anxiety go up by the day, we switched to Andy. Even though we hired him right he was about to go on vacation, after which his dad passed and he had a lot on his plate, he still managed to get the other party to settle within 2 months. TWO MONTHS. The previous lawyer did nothing in SIX. Will Andy tell you you can get everything you want? No. Will he take the situation of both parties in consideration? Yes. Does he know a lot of attorneys in town and will likely know how to work with the specific one your co-parent chose? Also yes. He was firm but respectful every step of the way, knows the law, and will do everything so that both parties are satisfied with the final solution. Divorce and custody will never be perfect if one parent decides to file papers rather than communicate. But they'll be as good as they can get with Andy's help. As an aside, with every visit to his stunning SW Portland office, every staff member seemed extremely happy to work for him. Highly recommended.

7 years agoAndy provided amazing representation during a 20 month divorce proceeding. The case involved many different stages of needing Andy not only represented me but helped build strategies for the next stages and worse case situations which actually happened. We worked very well as a team and he was very open to thoughts I had with the case. Those conversations helped greatly because I needed to know my opinions and research mattered. Andy was very prepared in court and he has many strengths but prepping and being in court may be his strongest. I felt he accurately represented the case in a very logical, no drama matter. He was very familiar with the family/divorce court system. We worked very hard ensuring we had everything we needed to be highly prepared for our court hearing. Even though my case was unusually long it was not due to his efforts to find a solutions so we could avoid court and stretching the case. He was very focused on doing what is right especially if there are children involved. Please realize it is a two way relationship so I highly recommend listening to your lawyer and provide them with the information they'll need to help you. Divorce was one of the biggest moments in my life. Choosing the correct attorney is such a important decision that will effect you the rest of your life. Selecting Andy as my attorney was one of the best decisions I have made. He was with me the entire time during the different divorce stage including post divorce. Always very timely with replies to my emails, and he has a great staff working for him. His paralegals were extremely helpful and made it simple to provide the many documents you'll need to provide during this process. I highly recommend Andy. It was a great feeling in a very negative situation to be highly prepared for court system and the opposing attorney. I will always recommend him to anyone needing one of the best attorneys in Portland.

4 years agoIt's hard for me to overstate my endorsement of Andy, Caitlin, and the other folks at McLain Legal. I can't say that I enjoyed the process; it was a long and arduous slog. It was expensive. But Andy and Caitlin and their staff took what became a very challenging and hard fought legal battle by the horns and wrestled win after win out of awful situations. They did this with their high degree of legal proficiency, with long-view strategy, by understanding my position and opinions, and importantly, by always placing my kids first in all respects. My life now bears little resemblance to what it looked like when I first called Andy five years ago. My kids are in great shape, they see both of their parents regularly, both parents are building new lives with new partners. Being reasonable is now the norm, but it wouldn't have been, had Andy and Caitlin and their team not been there to help establish a new normal. I give this business my strongest endorsement.
